Is there any disadvantage of sodium percarbonate?

Post  sherryfu on Mon Apr 12, 2010 4:25 am

We know sodium percarbonate is mainly used as a bleaching chemical in laundry detergents, laundry additives and machine dishwashing products. The pure product (100 %) is also available for consumers as a laundry additive. Sodium percarbonate may also be used in products for drain cleaning, multipurpose cleaning or for denture cleansing.

Sodium-percarbonate offers many of the same functional benefits as liquid hydrogen peroxide, then is there any disadvantage of sodium percarbonate? Because it is so very concentrated, it is easy to use too much. It’s tempting (and easy) to sprinkle some on a stain and scrub it in, when a much less concentrated form would likely do the trick. In many cases this is okay -- once in a while it could get you into trouble. And the usual cautions for hydrogen peroxide also apply to sodium percarbonate: check for colorfastness, keep it out of eyes.
At last, It takes some time to completely dissolve. If you're in a hurry, liquid peroxide is faster, since it doesn't need to "break down" into peroxide (it already is peroxide). Sodium-percarbonateneeds to break down to turn into peroxide (and soda ash).So not all of the things that only the good side, it also has some disadvantageds, so does Sodium Percarbonate.
