The marigold is one of the best plants used for bedding. These plants are not only drought tolerant, but also grow in poor soil types. The yellow and orange are traditional marigolds; there are many varieties of marigold that can be grown in gardens. A well-drained soil enriched with compost fertilizers should be enough for marigolds to attain a healthy growth. Watering should be done only in dry spells. Humid weather creates problems for the growth of marigold and the plant can suffer from diseases like powdery mildew, gray mold and leaf spot in such conditions. Marigolds can be used as border plant and these are also planted between daylilies.

These plants are characterized by low maintenance however, protection against mildew humid weather is necessary. For the problem of mildew, one can use preventive measures like planting zinnias with enough spacing, spraying them with baking soda solution and avoiding unnecessary watering.
The lavender plants are native to the Mediterranean region and there are 39 species grouped under the genus, Lavandula. This plant produces attractive purple colored blooms. Warm conditions are best suited for growing lavenders and the soil need to well-drained. The lavender plant though, is drought tolerant, it requires regular watering, at least in the first season of growth. Lavenders have to be protected from harsh winter winds. To provide them with necessary heat, planting next to a brick/stone wall helps.
The yucca plant is commonly used for landscaping in USA. This drought resistant plant requires less water and the cost of maintenance too is low. These are mostly grown as ornamental plants. Height of the yucca ranges from 30-250 cm. Yuccas is characterized by leaves that are sword-shaped and woody stems.
