For naming of organic compounds IUPAC nomenclature is used widely all over the world. There are certain rules to do nomenclature :
1. Identify the longest carbon chain.
2. write down the possible set of positions of function group or any other substituents attached to it.
3. Choose the set accordingly and name the organic compound.
This type of thing are only learned with the help of practice. And also as organic chemistry contain several other branches such as carbonyl chemistry is also useful to learn.
