Application of Titanium dioxide

Post  rihanna on Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:49 am

Titanium dioxide whose CAS NO is 13463-67-7 have the Melting point of 1840 °C and the Boiling Point of 2900 °C. at the temperature 25 °C , its density is 4.26 g/mL. titanium is insoluble in water.
Titanium dioxide ( LookChem ) is the most widely used white pigment. It is used as a white food colouring. jocolor
In cosmetic and skin care products, titanium dioxide is used both as a pigment and a thickener. It is also used as a tattoo pigment and styptic pencils. It is also used as a hydrolysis catalyst. It is also used in the Graetzel cell, a type of chemical solar cell. It offers great potential as an industrial technology for detoxification or remediation of wastewater. It is also used in resistance-type lambda probes. It is also used as a material in the memristor, a new electronic circuit element. It is also used by film and television companies as a substitute for snow when filming scenes which require a winter setting.

Titanium dioxide has a chemical formula TiO2. When used as a pigment, it is called titanium white.
The compounds such as carbonyl chemistry also have wide range of applications.
The Applications of titanium are
1.Pigment
2.Sunscreen and UV Absorber
3.Photocatalyst

Pigment:Titanium dioxide is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high refractive index (n = 2.7).

Sunscreen and UV Absorber:Titanium dioxide is used as a pigment, sunscreen and a thickener in skin care products. It is also used as a tattoo pigment .

photocatalystTitanium dioxide,in the anatase form, act as a photocatalyst under ultraviolet (UV) light. Titanium dioxide, when spiked with nitrogen ions or doped with metal oxide like tungsten trioxide, is also a photocatalyst under either visible or UV light.
