to remove naphthol from the reaction mixture

Post  Lavina on Fri Sep 03, 2010 4:08 am

Hi everybody,
i ran a reaction between 1-naphthol and ethyl chloro acetate (and K2CO3) in acetone. The reaction moved partially with lots of naphthol impurity which is polar than the product.
How do i remove it? gave a wash with 10% NaOH, helped to some extent. Lost the product as well. Please let me know if you have got better ideas. Thank you.

Now i am running the same reaction in DMF, and waiting for the result. Smile

you can apply various reduction an impurity removal techniques such as reacting with some other agent which react with impurities and help you to have a pure chemical. I hope this help you a little bit and tutorials chemistry tutorials are the best teachers to learn anything .
