Propanel (propionaldehyde) the product of the reaction of propan 1-ol (1-propyl alcohol and certain oxidizers with acidified K2CRO3 boils at about half the temp. of the alcohol. The dichromate in the reaction mixture can further oxidize the aldehyde to a carboxylic acid. Therefore,Simply distill the aldehyde out as it is formed! There are other ways,Think PCC.
