Explain whether the product of the reaction of hydrogen cyanide with propanal at pH 8 would affect the plane of polarisation of polarised light?

Yes,I believe it will. The specific rotation is defined as the rotation found using a 10-cm. cell and a concentration of 1g/ml. of the substance tested. It also depends on the wavelength of light used in test and temperature of sample.
