PVAc + NaCl,ANSWER

Post  sangbmt on Fri Jan 07, 2011 7:26 am

Hello!

Why can I use brine salt to separate PVAc from water?

What do I obtain from the reaction (if there is any) of Polyvinyl Acetate and brine salt?

Thanks

PVAc + NaCL, ANSWER

Post  Thesci3141 on Fri Jan 07, 2011 8:55 pm

Hello,I am working on the other problems you posted. However,I noticed this one and I can answer it easily. Brine (concentrated NaCL+H2O) solution has A great affinity for more water and will absorb more water from mixtures, emulsions, etc. of substances that have less affinity for water than brine,NaCL. This is A common procedure to extract water from mixtures etc. PVAc has less affinity for H2O than does Brine therefore, the water is absorbed by the brine. NOTE: Study, Solubility constants. This is part of your answer to your question of PVAc seperation.
