Coal chemical industry refers to coal as raw materials, chemical processing of coal into a gas, liquid and solid fuels, and chemical processes. Including coal gasification, liquefaction, pyrolysis, tar processing and calcium carbide and acetylene chemical.
Coal chemical industry began in the latter half of the 18th century, 19th century, the coal chemical industry to form a complete system. The 20th century, many agricultural and forestry products as raw materials in organic chemicals and more to coal as raw material, chemical industry, coal chemical industry to become an important part. After World War II, the rapid development of petrochemical industry, the production of many chemicals, and from coal as raw material transferred to the oil and natural gas as raw material, thus weakening the coal chemical industry in the chemical industry's position. The chemical structure of coal organic matter, is mainly polycyclic aromatic core as a unit, interconnected by a bridge bond, and with various functional groups of macromolecular structures by thermal processing and catalytic processing, you can make coal into the kinds of fuels and chemical products. Coking is the application of the first and still the most important way, its main purpose is to take metallurgical coke manufacturing, and product gas and benzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene and other aromatics. Gasification of coal chemical industry also plays an important role for the production of town gas and a variety of fuel gas, but also for the production of synthesis gas; low-temperature carbonization of coal, coal liquefaction and indirect liquefaction of coal to produce liquid fuels and other primary process.
