Therapeutic Effects of a Strawberry

Strawberry belongs to the rosaceae perennial herb. It was originated from South America, and was not introduced to China until the early 20th century. There are more than 2,000 varieties of strawberry.

Strawberry is a nutritious fruit, containing a variety of effective ingredients. For example, there is 60 mg vitamin C in every hectogram fresh strawberry pulp, which is much higher than that in apple and grape. Strawberry pulp contains large amount of carbohydrate, protein, organic acid, pectin and other nutrients. In addition, strawberry is also rich in vitamins B1, B2, C, PP, as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, zinc, chromium and other minerals which are essential to human body.

In recent years, medical study shows that the strawberry has great medicinal value. It has the unique effect which is beneficial to our heart and brain, especially its great effect of preventing coronary heart disease, intracerebral hemorrhage and atherosclerosis.

Research indicates that strawberry has anti-cancer effect. The root, leave and fruit of strawberry contain tannic acid, which is with high anti-tumor activity and can protect human tissue from the invasion of cancer-causing substances, and to some extent reduce the incidence of cancer. What's more, according to relevant data, vitamin C in strawberry can block the formation of nitrosamine, a kind of strong carcinogen. So it can destroy the activity of specific enzyme in the hyperplasia of the cancer cells, and transform the "cancerated" cell into normal cells.
